Tommy Riordan Talks Hawkeye Offer
IL DL's Brother A '26 Iowa Commitment
The Riordan family has become real familiar with Iowa City. Class of 2026 offensive lineman Gene Riordan visited the Hawkeyes multiple times before verbally committing in late April. He’s scheduled to be back in town on Friday for his official visit.
His younger brother, Tommy Riordan, a junior defensive lineman, attended the program’s recruiting tailgater this past weekend. Iowa offered him a scholarship.
“My brother was incredibly excited when I was offered by Iowa,” Tommy said. “He was almost more excited than I was.”
The younger Riordan (6-4.5, 240) has seen his recruitment pick up. After the Hawkeyes offered on Saturday, Wisconsin did the same think a day later when Tommy camped with the Badgers.
Illinois, Kansas, Purdue, Minnesota and others offered Tommy earlier this year. None of them have a commitment from Gene, though.
“I would love to play with my brother in Iowa. However, I have to make the decision for myself, and it will be based off my needs and what school I like. I will still look at other schools and find one that’s the best fit for me,” Tommy said.
Gene, a four-star prospect, has reported 19 scholarship offers. Tommy has watched his brother build relationships with some of the same schools recruiting him.
“With my brother have already gone through the recruiting process, I have a good idea on other schools and their programs,” he said.
The Hawkeyes are in that group.
“The Iowa program is known for being developmental and always puts together a really good team in season,” he said.
Tommy has experience working with the Iowa staff having camped at the school the last two summers. That happened on June 1 this year.
“Coach (Kelvin Bell) liked my size and athletic ability. He also liked the physicality that I brought to camp,” Tommy said.
The Hawkeyes will continue recruiting the Riordan brothers. Gene would sign his letter of intent in December. Tommy has more time on his side to pick a school.
“I’m not 100 percent on what I would like to study in college, but I am leaning more towards Finance as a major,” he said.
