2026 California QB Cash Herrera de-commits from Iowa

IOWA CITY, Iowa – California quarterback Cash Herrera has decommitted from the Iowa football team.
The San Diego native announced his decision Monday on social media.
“First off, I would like to thank the staff at Iowa for believing in me,” Herrera said. “After long discussions with my family, I have decided to re-open my recruitment. I wish nothing but the best for the Iowa program in the future.”
Ranked as a three-star recruit in the 2026 class, Herrera initially committed to Iowa in October over scholarship offers from UCLA, Minnesota, San Diego State among others.
Herrera’s announcement comes just days before of Iowa’s big official visit weekend for 2026 prospects. He was among the many prospects scheduled to visit Iowa City.
Herrera passed for over 2,000 yards and completed 24 touchdown passes as a senior.
Iowa now has nine commitments in the 2026 class. However, Herrera’s de-commitment leaves the Hawkeyes with no quarterback in the class.
On3 ranks the class 33rd nationally and 12th in the Big Ten. 247 Sports ranks the class 48th nationally and 16th in the Big Ten.
