2026 star recruit Bo Bassett de-commits from Iowa wrestling team

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Iowa wrestling team has suffered a huge recruiting setback as 2026 commit Bo Bassett announced on social media that he has de-committed from Iowa.
The Pennsylvania native had been committed to Iowa since February, and projected anywhere from 149 to 157 pounds.
“After a lot of prayer and talking with my family, I’ve decided to decommit from the University of Iowa,” Bassett said on social media. “This wasn’t easy, but I believe it’s not the right fit for me as a wrestler, a person, or for my faith journey.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity, and I’ll never speak a bad word about their program. This is about finding the right place God wants me to be. This is a huge decision in my life and it has to be the right one.”
“I would like to thank all the Iowa fans who have supported me. You have been amazing and I am grateful for the support you showed me. I have opened up my recruitment.”
Bassett’s brother, 2027 top prospect Melvin Miller, also has removed Iowa from the list of schools he is considering. Melvin Miller is ranked by some as the top recruit in the 2027 class.
Bassett is MatScouts’ No. 1 overall prospect in the 2026 class and one of the more sought after recruits in recent history.
He won a bronze medal at the 2024 U20 World Wrestling Championships in Spain (65-kg weight class), and has won two straight Pennsylvania state titles while compiling a 126-0 overall record.
